The shop is a vital facility for the local community, providing not only a convenience store but also a hub for local residents, who frequently use the shop as a place to catch up with friends and neighbours and find out about local events and activities. The area also attracts many visitors, who visit the shop for supplies and tourist information. It is completely reliant on local volunteers who undertake a variety of tasks. These include:
Serving in the shop
Sourcing and purchasing products
Financial tasks including cash handling, banking and budget analysis
Maintenance and repair
Some of the benefits of volunteering include:
Making new friends
Meeting old friends
Learning new skills
Feeling part of the community
Full training is provided and every effort is made to match volunteers’ skills and experience with the tasks that need to be fulfilled, although many people like to use volunteering as an opportunity to try something completely new! We often need more counter staff, stock purchasers, delivery helpers, people to set up the papers first thing in the morning and help with keeping the shop clean. If you think you may be able to spare a few hours a week to carry out one of these vital functions, please get in touch with Sheridan (01588 680536) for more information about what these roles entail. Or use our contact form. We would like to emphasise that people are welcome to give it a try before deciding.
